History and Philosophy

Bank of Agriculture & Commerce (BAC) is owned by the Berberian Family, which has lived and operated businesses in California's Central Valley for more than fifty years. Ronald A. Berberian, Chairman of the Board of Bank of Agriculture & Commerce, is committed to offer the best in financial and banking services. His dedication to BAC clients is reflected throughout the daily operation of the bank.

Established in 1965, BAC specializes in providing financial services to local businesses and individuals. Our expertise lies in our ability to offer a full range of banking services to the professional sector, such as physicians, dentists, attorneys, accountants, and other businesses engaged in commercial or industrial activities. We take care of the financial banking needs of the business establishment as well as the personal banking needs of the owner or principals and their employees.

We personalize services to fit the specific needs of each customer. BAC assigns bank officers to our clients so they can develop a better understanding of each client's needs, allowing our customers to receive the full benefit of our staff's expertise. All employees serve BAC clients with the highest levels of sincerity, fairness, courtesy, respect, and gratitude. We call this unique approach to client service relationship banking.

We are proud of our reputation for providing superior personalized services specifically tailored to each client's needs. Our employees are committed and trained to provide the best in banking services to every client in order to keep pace with the ever-changing needs of our clients.

BAC offers a variety of deposit accounts and loan products for business and personal clients. We also offer business related services such as cash management, lockbox service, courier, cash vault, Internet banking including online bill payment, and personal banking services such as safe deposit boxes, ATM cards, travelers' checks, Telebanking, Visa Check Card®, Internet banking, and online bill payment and transfers. Our area of expertise lies in our ability to fulfill the credit and operational needs of small to medium size businesses.

BAC operates five branches in Antioch, Brentwood, Concord, Discovery Bay and Oakley. BAC has offices in Stockton, Modesto, and Lodi. The Bank began operations in Brentwood in 1965 and opened its first branch in Stockton in 1968. The second Stockton office opened in 1978. The Oakley branch opened in 1986, Discovery Bay branch opened in 1989 and Modesto's branch opened in 1997. BAC acquired the Antioch and Concord branches in June 2002; the Lodi loan production office opened in 2004.

On July 17th, 2006, the Antioch, Brentwood, Concord, Discovery Bay, and Oakley branches of BAC became ECC Bank, a Division of Bank of Agriculture & Commerce. Although the name change had little impact on our customers, the new name reflects our heritage as East Contra Costa County's Community Bank. Bank of Agriculture & Commerce and the new ECC Bank will continue striving to meet the needs of its customers, supporting the local communities and caring about its employees. BAC customers may use any ECC branch office or ATM to conduct business and personal transactions.

On December 4th, 2006, Bank of Agriculture & Commerce opened the doors to its new Lodi branch. This is the first full-service banking facility for BAC in Lodi. Previously, BAC has only had a loan production office in Lodi, and we are pleased to be expanding our banking branches to better serve our clients.

Executive Management

Ronald A. Berberian, Chairman of the Board and President
Ron has served as Chairman of the Board since 1991. He is actively involved in the strategic management of the bank and is dedicated to its mission of delivering a wide array of financial products with personalized service.

William R. Trezza, Chief Executive Officer
Bill joined BAC in 1982 and has been CEO since 1984. He has been involved in the banking industry for more than 33 years, including 13 years with the O.C.C., a Federal Bank Regulatory Agency.

Dana Bockstahler, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer
Dana started in the bank's finance department in 1987 and assumed the position of Chief Financial Officer in 1991. She has a B.S. in Finance and a Masters in Accounting from CSU-Sacramento and is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School.

Steve Stevenson, Executive Vice President, Sales and Service Manager
Steve joined BAC in February 2005; his responsibilities include marketing and product development, sales, customer relationship management, and community relations. He has over 20 years experience working with locally owned financial institutions and has been extensively involved in the community.

Ned Smull, Executive Vice President, Chief Lending Officer
Ned joined BAC as the Senior Lending Officer in 1990. He has more than 29 years of banking experience and has held various positions in Corporate Banking, Credit Administration, and Administration for large regional banks.

Janet Jenkins, Executive Vice President, Chief Credit Officer
A BAC employee since 1983, Janet is Chief Credit Officer. Janet joined the bank upon graduation from the University of the Pacific School of Business and is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School.

Jackie Verkuyl, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Hired in 2003 as Chief Financial Officer, Jackie is a CPA with a BS in Business Administration from Cal Poly. She has more than 15 years of experience in public accounting.

Tania Brugger, Vice President
Commercial Banking Officer, Tania joined the Bank in 2009 and is responsible for business development in East Contra Costa.
Tania obtained her B.S. degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in finance, from the California State University at Hayward.  Tania has worked in the banking industry for more than 20 years.

Claudia Cozad, Vice President
Commercial Banking Officer in Stockton, Claudia joined BAC in 1977 and worked in Branch Operations for 12 years. She is responsible for customer service and business development in Stockton.

Phillip Felde, Vice President
Phil joined BAC in 2003 as the Commercial Banking Officer for northern San Joaquin County. He has been involved in banking in Lodi for more than 25 years.

Bonnie Hewitt, Vice President
Loan Documentation Officer, Bonnie has more than 28 years experience in banking, with more than 17 of those years in agricultural lending. Bonnie has been with BAC since 1994.

Bruce Hotz, Vice President
Audit Director, Bruce joined BAC in 2004. He is certified as a CPA and CIA and has more than 24 years experience in bank internal audit an in information technology.

Erik Kapeller, Vice President
Commercial Loan Officer, Erik joined BAC in August 2009. He comes to the Bank with more than 15 years experience in the banking industry. Erik obtained his degree in Agriculture and Managerial Economics from UC Davis.

Darcy A. Koster, Vice President
Marketing Administration Officer, Darcy joined the bank in April 2006. She comes to BAC with more than 20 years experience in Marketing, Community Relations and Customer Service. Darcy has a B.S. degree in Communications and Journalism from the University of Wisconsin and post-graduate studies in Marketing.

Jack McAuley, Vice President
Residential Loan Manager, Jack joined BAC in 2005. He brings 43 years of experience in residential mortgage and construction loans to the Bank.

William B. McKinley, Vice President
Corporate Loan Officer, Bill joined BAC in 2002. A graduate of Saint Mary's College, he has more than 30 years experience in the banking industry.

Alan Moore, Vice President
Commercial Banking Officer for the bank's Antioch, Brentwood, Discovery Bay and Oakley locations. Alan has over 25 years of commercial banking experience in Contra Costa County. He is a youth football coach in Antioch and Walnut Creek and a volunteer for the Neighborhood Improvement Program in Antioch.

Cathy L. Newhall, Vice President
Branch Administration Officer, Cathy joined BAC in January 2006. She has a BS degree in Human Relations and Organizational Behavior with a banking background in accounting, auditing and branch administration. Cathy has worked in the banking industry for almost 30 years.

Stan Smith, Vice President
A BAC employee since 1985, Stan is the Information Systems Manager and is responsible for all information technology within the bank. He has been in banking for more than 23 years.

Denys A. Soto, Vice President
Denys joined the BAC team in 1996 as a Commercial Lending Officer and is BAC's agricultural and government loan specialist. She received her B.S. from CSU-Sacramento and has more than 31 years in the banking industry.

Shirley Urias, Vice President
Employed with BAC since 1995, Shirley is the Loan Operations Officer. She has more than 30 years of banking and customer service experience.

Kathy Withers, Vice President
Kathy is the bank's Compliance Officer. She joined BAC in 2000 and has more than 35 years of experience in the industry with content knowledge in multiple aspects of banking.

Terri Alfaro, Assistant Vice President
Risk Analyst, Terri has been with BAC since 1993. She has more than 25 years of banking experience.

Eddie Lira, Assistant Vice President
Commercial Banking Officer in Stockton. Eddie joined the BAC in 2007. He comes to the Bank with six years of professional sales experience. Eddie graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.

Gina Machado, Assistant Vice President
Commercial Banking Officer for the Modesto Office. Gina joined the Bank in 2007 with eight years experience, five of them concentrated in the banking industry. Gina obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from CSU Stanislaus and is currently working towards her MBA Degree from the University of Phoenix.

Susan Machado, Assistant Vice President
Manager of BAC's Office Services Department, Susan has been with BAC since 1985 and has been in banking more than 31 years.

Rita Murdock, Assistant Vice President
Rita has worked at independent banks since 1972 and enjoys the personalized service she can give to her customers. She came to work for BAC in 1990 and is the Operations Manager of the Brentwood branch.

Peggy Nemee, Assistant Vice President
Human Resource Manager, Peggy Nemee joined BAC in 2009. Peggy has a degree in Business Administration from Humphrey’s College in Stockton, Ca. She has more than 20 years of HR experience in the banking industry.

Regina Beauchene
Our Operations Manager in Concord, Regina joined BAC in 2005 with more than 40 years of experience in the banking operations.

Linda Denos
Operations Manager at our Brentwood Country Club Office, Linda joined BAC in 2003 with more than 23 years of banking experience.

Thelma Dougherty
Thelma joined BAC in 2000 as a Consumer Loan Officer. She has been in the banking industry for more than 23 years and has specialized in consumer lending for the past five years.

Suzanne Batten Fedi
Suzanne is the Bank's Customer Service Department Manager. She joined BAC in 2004 as Operations Manager of Stockton's March Lane Branch. She has more than 21 years experience in the banking industry.

Jean French
Jean is the Bank's Operations Manager at our Discovery Bay Office. She has 13 years experience in the banking industry. 

Christine Lilly
Operations Manager of our Antioch branch, Christine has more than 16 years experience in the industry and has worked for East County Bank and CivicBank of Commerce.

Rae Jean Morris
Rae Jean joined BAC in 2001. Rae Jean is the Operations Manager of the Bank's Lodi Office. She has been in the banking industry since 1974, including customer service management and operations.

Maria Ornelas
Maria brings 8 years of banking experience to her position as Operations Manager of Stockton's Main Street Office.

Jesse Pataria
Commercial Loan Officer, Jesse joined BAC in January 2006. He is a graduate of Sacramento State University with a B.S. degree in Finance and a Minor in Real Estate. Jesse comes to the bank with 6 years experience in the banking industry.

Diane White
Diane is the Operations Manager for the March Lane Office in Stockton. Diane has 23 years experience in the banking industry. Most recently, Diane served BAC as Accounting Supervisor.

Robin Ziegler
Robin is the Operations Manager of the Oakley Office.  Robin has 34 years of banking experience and expertise in a variety of areas.
